Organized Girl’s Guide to Packing and Moving

Crazy to think that in just one week my husband and I with our little pets will be moving to our first rental home! We have always lived in apartments and cannot wait to have our own apartment and the extra space.

Since I am in my third trimester of pregnancy , I decided to start packing earlier rather than later. I am already wired to be overly organized and used some of my other skills to good use when it came to packing our 2 bedroom apartment.

Here is a couple of tips and products I think anyone can use when moving!

  1. Make a Plan!

    • It is so cliche to say that but seriously it makes all the difference. Whether it is with your partner or by yourself take some time to sit down and map out the 2 months before your big move. I looked at each weekend before our move date and thought through what could I pack that wasn’t an essential. Once I listed out the non-essentials I placed that on one weekend and dedicated a Saturday morning to packing up what was on the list! This was a huge stress reliever compared to trying to pack everything up on one weekend.

  2. Color Coordinate Areas!

    • Now you may think this is a little overboard but I promise you it is a time saver. I mapped out each area of our home for example : Living Room, Office, Bathroom, Kitchen, etc. I bought a 6 pack of duck tape that had different colors and assigned a color to each area. While I was packing boxes I would use the color tape and add it to the sides and top of the box! This will come in handy when my husband and his friends are unpacking the moving truck. They ca easily put the boxes where they needed to go without having to constantly ask.

  3. Pack Carefully!

    • Even if you are moving just a couple streets down like us or across country it is important to pack thoroughly and carefully. Splurge on that extra bubble wrap or the dish kit! Make sure to double wrap and then stuff extra newspaper or blankets in boxes that you know have fragile things inside of them. Also, pack like items/things together so that when you unpack you aren’t overwhelmed with where everything is.

  4. Say Thank You!

    • If you are having family or friends come to help you move an easy thank you is providing a meal and cold water for them. I am planning on providing a Chick-fil-a nugget tray and chips for our crew that is coming to help! It is an easy thank you that can go a long way!

Hopefully these small tips help you with your packing and moving! This can be a stressful time for some when it should be a fun time!
